About Vijay's Virtual Vibes

Vijay's Virtual Vibes (formerly Vijay's Hub of Relaxation) builds upon the legacy of the random website discovery tool, StumbleUpon, which closed down in the late 2010s, but made it our own way - with a special focus on aesthetically pleasing, visually ornate and captivating sites that push the limits of coding expertise. This site, created by Vijay Shah from England, UK, is a digital gateway that will immerse you into a world of random creativity, bright colours, epic scenes, surreal soundscapes, viral videos, and other amazing pieces of content, all waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.

One of the biggest complaints about the Internet today is that it is too algorithm-driven, samey and corporate - with identikit, cookie cutter sites that track your every move and use underhand techniques to make you buy stuff. In the olden days, surfing the internet and finding gems along the pavements of the 'Information Superhighway' was exciting and fun. Now our experiences online are reduced to disinformation, brainrot, recycled memes and doomscrolling. Vijay's Virtual Vibes aims to bring the serendipity of the old, indie, non-corporate web back, in a fun way, where each click on the retro 'Kitty Telly' is a chance to find what makes the web special outside of social media walled gardens.

Vijay's Virtual Vibes scours the most unknown reaches of the internet, as well as more familiar places, to find interesting, weird and wonderful sites to add to our curated collection, which now numbers several thousand links. We've been going strong since 2021, when the creator of Vijay's Virtual Vibes first collected together some pretty websites to help take his mind off monotonous work tasks in his day job. During the coronavirus pandemic, these 'stress busters' provided Vijay with a means of escape from lockdown drudgery, and now he is sharing this collection with you. The collection is carefully curated to make sure it passes the vibe check, showcasing our best picks of web art and experiments, games, 3D creations, useless websites, random text generators, funny and artsy videos (mostly from social media, but we promise they're good!), and so much more. While we do the searching, discovering and all the legwork, you just need to put your feet up, make a nice tea, coffee, or hot choc, and just click or tap on your device of choice. Be warned though, your mind will be blown!

Vijay's Virtual Vibes owes its inspiration to one of the oldest random website sites out there, Sharkle.com. A chance discovery by this site's creator of Sharkle, with its eclectic space-themed background, was the turning point to make his own homage to the indie web and random discovery. After teaching himself some basic coding, and developing a deeper interest in the colourful web, he introduced VVV to the world. Several years later, we get visitors from all over the world, bringing good vibes in every continent.

Vijay Shah is an internet fan and amateur coder of mixed Mauritian/English origin from eastern Greater London, UK. He first got on the net at secondary school around 1998, on a chunky white plastic shelled desktop with Netscape and Lycos to show him the way. He has created or been influenced to make several webtoys and online projects, such as 'General Zazu', 'WikiKitty Stream' and 'Staring Orange Cat', which are all hosted here and can be found in our collection. Many of the sites featured here were discovered on Reddit's Internet is Beautiful sub, X/Twitter, CodePen and forums, as well as random searches on search engines and by-chance discoveries.
